AURORA Kit No.392-249, 1/48 scale , P-61 NORTHROP "BLACK WIDOW",  First 1960 Tooling Release, NIB & factory Sealed.

Aurora Products Corp. kit made in West Hempstead, L.I., N.Y.,  printing by Aurora, USA,  Decal set from Aurora.  Released in 1960, this is the factory first P-61 kit produced by AURORA.  It is recognized from the famous box art of Jo Kotula as the Black Widow is on night patrol over a Southern Pacific island and flames a Ki-61 Hein while on its night mission.  The kit later went on to be one of the twelve Fighter-Bomber series kits released by Aurora in 1972 with the same tooling, but different box art.  (See my other items)

Kit includes pilots and rear gunner, cockpit and instrument panel, rotating propellers, detailed landing gear, clear triangular display stand, full color U.S. Air Force Decals.   This kit has the tooling details of scribed air frame lines, access cover details and oval Aurora logo within the horizontal tail.

Still mint in the factory seal. Hard-box dated 1960 - however, this issue lacks the 'Famous Fighters' in the oval logo border and has a $2.49 price extension, so it was likely on the kit floor from 1966-69.

Now located in the great room of the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Oh. the famous Northrup P-61 "Moon Light Serenade" still goes on to demonstrate the history of this Aurora model.
