U.S.S. DEFIANCE PG-95,1:131 scale, Patrol Gunboat, Ashville Class, REVELL Kit No. H-435-380, 1972

Revell Inc., Venice, Ca., kit molded in Venice, printing and packaging by Revell,  Decal set from Revell..  Representing the Ashville Class kits, this is the 1972 new tool first kit of the rare Revell USS Defiance.   This kit went on to be re-boxed by Revell multiple times in '79, '86 and 2002. Quite a lineage of kit releases!

This kit was released by Revell to record the 1960s technology of the Navy's 50 knot aluminum hull technology used in missions like that of the PT boats of WWII.

Built at Peterson Builders Inc., Sturgeon Bay, Wisc.
Laid down:03. October 1967, Launched: 24. August 1968 Commissioned: 24. September 1969 Decommissioned and transferred to Turkey in February 1973, renamed YILDERIM
Lost: 11. April 1985 due to explosion and fire at the  Greek island Mitelene in Aegean Sea

Kit details:

The kit includes a 15 inch hull, scale moveable turret and guns, detailed radar antenna and gun director, deck fittings and ship antennas, four .50 cal. machine guns, moveable 40mm Anti-Aircraft gun, lifeboat, waterline paint stripe details, twin propellers and rudders and a display base.  The iconic box art by Rohardt, reflects the USS Defiance and a Bell Cobra helicopter returning fire in attack posture, making white water in a high speed port turn.
