* The flanges are machined to allow them to slide about 1/8" onto the pipe before welding which keeps them centered and ensures a smooth transition for exhaust flow. Fit perfectly, nice and snug. Welded up cleanly. No leaks.
* Besides being machined to fit on the pipe for welding, the mating face of both flanges are machined to keep them centered. One has a lip on the inside that fits in a recess machined into the other flange to keep them centered, to ensure proper alignment of the flanges inside the clamp.
