Offering a 1916 French by Jules-Prosper Legastelois commemorating the World War1 Battle of the Marne. Struck in Sterling Silver by the Paris Mint, it is 66 mm (2 5/8") in diameter. It weighs 190 grams.
The edge is stamped 1Argent with the Cornucopia of the Paris Mint. 1Argent indicates .925 Silver.
The obverse are portraits of Commander In Chief Joffre with Generals Maunory and Gallieni with "Bataille de la Marne" the portraits and "September 1914" below.
The reverse is a scene of French soldiers advancing on the battlefield with Marianne, armed with a sword, guiding from above. The City of Paris, with the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe can be seen in the far background at the top left.
There is just a hint of rubbing wear at the highest points of the design.
