2001 Dodge Intrepid R/T NASCAR Display Mockup

2001 was the year that MOPAR returned to NASCAR and now you can own a piece of that history. This Dodge Intrepid R/T NASCAR mockup was prominently displayed on the side of the Petersen Automotive Museum for the past 10 years (see photos). It was recently taken down and is in need of a new home.

The car body is made of fiberglass with a few steel panels, including the hood. It has what we believe to be a body shaped like the actual race-cars, and it is built on what we believe is most of a chassis and roll cage.

The front spindles appear to be real items (although the car does not steer) and it has a rear-end housing between the rear wheels. The wheels are what we believe to be actual NASCAR wheels and the tires are Goodyears. None of them hold air for very long.

The windows are all acrylic, painted black, and the roof contains actual roof flaps.

Because the car was displayed outside, we found evidence of wildlife (droppings) inside the car. Also, due to its long exposure to the elements, the paint has faded a bit and there appears to be some rust on the passenger-side floor.

This piece of NASCAR memorabilia could be cleaned up and displayed once again. Or, for the more ambitious, the one-piece body and simple chassis have tons of potential and could make for a very creative project.
