Ironing and Sewing on your patch:
1) Place the clothing FLAT on a hard surface.
2) Set iron to a middle setting (just before steam settings) NO STEAM
3) Place the patch in position
4) Place a clean paper towel between patch and iron
5) Apply a small amount of pressure with the iron for 20-25 seconds.
6) Continue to do this in intervals until the patch is glued down all the way out to the edges.
DO NOT come in contact with the patch itself or any fabric that is less than 60% cotton. Those garments need stitch on technique only.
For an even more secure patch—Follow all of the steps for ironing and then:
1) Thread a needle with a long-length color-coordinated thread. You will need thread that matches either the patch color or the garment color. The thread should be cut long enough that you can double the thread to tie the two ends of the tread together to form a knot. Usually, a 2-foot length of thread will give you enough to start sewing the patch without the danger of the tread becoming tangled as you sew.
2) Position the needle on the outer edge of the patch on the underside of the garment.
3) Push the needle up through the garment and the patch, drawing the thread all the way through.
4) Push the needle back down through the patch and the fabric in a tiny stitch approximately the distance of a grain of rice.
5) Continue sewing until the patch is completely secured to the garment.
ALSO: It is best to wash your clothing that has patches, inside out, air dry or low heat setting. Let’s keep our favorites for a long time!
