ThinWood™ Acoustic Wood Veneer Pickguard
East Indian Rosewood-Single Ply
What It Is
ThinWood™ Acoustic Guards are unlike other pickguard materials. As thin as the thinnest colored plastics, these guards use standard wood veneer bonded on the underside with epoxy resin. This makes them the thinnest real wood guards available from .018 to .024. This guard measures .018 inch which is about as thick as a medium set B string.

It is finished to 600 grit and finished with oil.
Satin or gloss nitro-lacquer or polyurethane is available for and added charge via contacting me after your purchase.

Downside
These pickguards are NOT stronger and more scratch resistant than plastic. If you are an aggresive 'picker' that has deep and varied scratches on your current plastic pickguard, I do NOT recommend these, making plastic a good choice for your pickguard material.

But a large number of players  are not as aggressive and these guards are a good option to offer the protection one seeks for an acoustic pickguard, while offering the beauty and light weight of wood. It is note worthy that Taylor Guitars has recently added the beauty and light weight of rosewood guards to their 800 series.

They also can be carefully refreshed with 0000 steel wool, 600 grit sandpaper and a fresh coat of finishing oil. (This might be a job for your favorite guitar tech if your worried about scratching the guitar finish)

Upsides
Having discussed the downside, we should now focus on the big advantage of the single ply wood veneer pickguard:
These are extremely lightweight, adding the absolute minimum dampening of your guitar top. The best case scenario for maximum tone and projection of the guitar soundboard is to leave it naked without a pickguard.Unfortunately, the price to pay without a pickguard is damaging the finish and eventually the wood guitar top (We've all felt the shock of seeing Willie Nelson's guitar). The best compromise is to put protection on the guitar with the absolute minimum impact to the voice of the soundboard. Light=Less Dampening=Greater Soundboard Movement.. Also note that East Indian Rosewood, as a resonant tonewood is more musical than a sheet of plastic and can actually be heard when tapping the two in comparison..
