Two words to sum up the Sea Ray 370 Express Cruiser?
Style and flexibility.
Its full array of comforts makes any type of outing on the water a pleasure.
The 370 is a boat for all seasons.
INSTALLED OPTIONS
No matter where you look on our Sea Ray 370 Express Cruiser, there’s something that says you’re traveling in luxurious style. From the lines of the hull to the appointments of the interior, the 370 EC is a boat that makes a statement. It does so with an elegance that has made Sea Ray one of the country’s premier boat builders.
The 370 EC is a flexible craft. The open express cruiser deck configuration allows the craft to be used as either a fishing or diving platform, or as a comfortable day boat. Below-decks, the cabin has all the facilities to support almost any type of outing. For extended travel, it comfortably accommodates four people and their gear with ease. The wide beam of 14 feet, 2 inches provides an extra bit of elbow room throughout.
Goodies Galore
The bi-level cockpit and helm area of the 370 EC can seat more than 10
people. Both the helm and port side forward facing seats, plus the port
aft facing hold two abreast. You can flip the standard bench seat away
and in toward the transom to clear the area for fishing action.
Our boat is factory equipped with the fishing package that includes a livewell and fishbox in the cockpit sole, plus a bait preparation station immediately aft of the helm seat. There is an icemaker located under the helm seat. There is also a storage compartment for four rods built into the saloon floor.
A swim platform with a hideaway ladder is standard, as are the hot and cold transom shower and freshwater washdown. A raw water cockpit washdown is an option (which our 370 EC is equipped with). There is even a standard freshwater outlet in the anchor locker on the foredeck to keep your ground tackle clean.
The 370 EC treats boaters to a comfortable ride and convenient handling, thanks to the hull design and the helm’s ergonomic layout. The seat is front-to-back power adjustable, and the front edge flips up to a stand-up bolster conversion.
Below There!
Below-decks is where our 370 EC really cradles boaters in comfort. There
is both headroom and room to spread out throughout the cabin. A
comfortable convertible dinette is to starboard. There is storage in the
seats, cabinets and a curtained shelf above the cabinets. Opposite the
dinette is a full galley that includes a large refrigerator with a
separate freezer compartment, a two-burner stove, a microwave oven, a
coffee maker and a deep-basin sink. Cabinet doors for the microwave and
the TV/VCR combo retreat to the sides of the units instead of sticking
out and getting in the way. When the doors are closed and a filler panel
is placed in the sink, it creates a clean look in the cabin, with no
exposed appliances. What’s more, it provides a large area of counter
space for other uses besides meal preparation.
The head is aft of the galley and features a VacuFlush toilet, a Corian vanity top and a fiberglass shower with a sliding, curved acrylic door.
The boat’s main electrical panel is located behind a cabinet door to the upper left of the galley. This is also where the control head of the standard premium Clarion audio system is located, which features an AM/FM cassette/receiver, a six-CD changer and a booster amp that powers eight speakers throughout the boat.
The forward stateroom can be separated for privacy from the main saloon by a two-panel sliding door that moves along an arched track. The full-size berth features coordinated pillows, sheets and a bedspread. To starboard is a large, almost walk-in, hanging locker with a small three-drawer cabinet to one side. Opposite it is another locker about half the height that can still be used for hanging clothes. Even when the components from the removable dinette in the main saloon are put in their stowage space under the berth, there’s still room for more stuff. The steps to the berth lift to expose even more storage area.
Getting to the 370 EC’s powerplants is simple. The entire helm-area floor can be raised via an electric lift to expose the engine compartment. There’s also a small hatch between the seats for quick fluid checks. Because of the 370 EC’s wide beam, boaters have ample room to work on either side of the engines, as well as front to back. The generator is located to port, but even here, there’s no lack of room. In fact, there’s enough space along the center line for an adult to lie down between the stringers. It’s an area that can be used for storage if needed.

Not everyone wants a mean, lean fish-fighting machine. Believe it or not, there are some capable anglers who do other things with their boats besides fish. Yeah, I know – go figure. But for those who enjoy sybaritic luxury and refinement but still want fishability, the Sea Ray 370 Express Cruiser warrants some investigation.
No matter what your application, you’ll find the Sea Ray 370 to be a fast boat, even with the tower. I found 36 mph running at 2,550 rpm to be a very comfortable cruising speed. If you want longer range, 2,100 rpm translates into a more efficient 27.5 mph. And few inboard boats will keep up with you and your 3116 Cat diesels on your way back from the fishing grounds at the 370’s top speed of 39 mph. The only downside of this fine turn of speed is the turbo whistle, which I found fairly pronounced at higher speeds.
Just so you don’t think this boat was designed for dilettante fishermen, I beat it up as much as I could in the 3-foot seas we encountered on test day and it passed with flying colors. It turns quite tightly without throwing anyone across the cockpit. On every point of sea, it ran smoothly and comfortably. That tells me that it could handle considerably more without a problem.
You might expect fishing appointments to be lackadaisical when the focus is elsewhere. But this 370 leaves nothing wanting. Two live wells assure fresh baits and easy access to them at all times. The two large fish boxes lift out for access to rudders, etc. A tackle and rigging center with a sink allows typical cockpit work to proceed as on any dedicated fishing machine. About the only problem I encountered while fishing the Sea Ray 370 was with the switch for lifting the engine hatch. The engineers (in all their fishing wisdom) placed it on the transom gunwale next to the coaming pad. Three different people leaned against it while pumping on a fish and couldn’t figure out why the bridge deck was rising by itself.
Those who drift-fish will certainly appreciate that when you shut down the power, the 370 ends up drifting beam-to. However, if you troll live baits, you’ll probably want to run on one engine, bumping it in and out of gear. A 7-knot trolling speed (with both engines) shows a remarkably clean wake with nothing but surface turbulence extending back only to the second wave.
As you’d expect from a boat of this ilk, the interior is a
nautical Versailles. A beautiful big head with shower, a full galley, a
dinette and settee area you’d be pleased to have in your home and even a
round bed on centerline forward.
Sea Ray doesn’t sell as many boats as it does by building ones that
fall apart. The company does a tremendous amount of stress testing on
its fiberglass laminates. Decks get end-grain balsa coring, but all
hulls are solid. Construction consists of vinylester resins, heavy
fiberglass woven roving throughout and Armorcoat gel-coats on decks and
bottoms to resist osmotic blistering and retard chalking and fading in
sunlight.

We have some of the best rates for RORO-shipping to Australia in the U.S. and we serve the ports of Brisbane, Adelaide, Port Kembla, Fremantle, and Melbourne. Whether you are a repeat customer or a first-time buyer, here’s a few tips and reminders about buying, shipping, and importing boats and yachts to Australia from the U.S.
Finding the right boat.
Buying a boat from another country often means dealing with people that
you never met or dealt with in the past. There’s tons of free classified
ads and Craig’s list-type re-advertisers on the internet with deals
just too good to be true. If it sounds too good, then, you’d guessed it,
it probably is a scam.
Do your research. Be realistic. Partner up with a Pro (like us).
We suggest you deal with us. Each week we get shipping, export, and certification inquiries from some of the country’s well respected marine dealers. We work in close cooperation with country-wide brand name retailers such as Marinemax and with the brand stores of Regal, Chaparral, Monterey, Bayliner, Larson – just to mention a few.
We are a fully licensed Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier by the Federal Maritime Commission and as such we operate our own in-house shipping company. We have exclusive contracts with some of the largest steamship companies in the world. As one of the rather few NVOCC’s we have the authority to buy and resell space on ocean-going cargo ships and issue our own bills of lading. What does this mean for you? As an individual? Well, by contacting us directly you are likely to save considerable time and money by dealing directly with the contract holder (as opposed to a string of middlemen).
Buying a boat directly from us or through our brokerage division
Boats International, Inc. is our own in-house discount boat dealership.
We buy bulk trade-in’s from the big retailers but we also buy from banks
and individuals as well. For the past 20+ years our focus have been to
absorb distressed inventory and floor-plan boats from cash-strapped
dealers and resell these locally and overseas. As we now are completing
our store expansion project (September, 2011) we will be able to take on
even more inventory then in the past and also have space over to
showcase brokerage and consignment boats.
Most of our international buyers rely on our reputation and expertise as a key player on the U.S. domestic and international boat market and they seek our help to source the boat(s) that they seek. If we do not have what they seek in stock we’ll be sure to find it through our network of dealers and banks for the right money.
Whether your buying a stock boat from us or one from another dealer we are well equipped to assist you with every step from inspection to final delivery of your boat or yacht to Australia. For example we can help you or your client with:
Finding a Boat or Yacht that meets (or exceeds) your requirements in terms of condition, equipment, and of course price
Negotiate the Deal (including but not limited to title searches, accident reports, previous owner status, etc)
Survey & Physical Inspection (we have a longstanding partnership with a number of accredited marine surveyors, mechanics, and experts in most regions of the country)
Closing the Deal – we often act as intermediary for international buyers as most of our overseas clients prefer only to work with one turn-key partner
Pre-shipping Logistics – once the deal is done and the boat paid for we assist in coordinating haul-outs, marina loadings, boat ramp pickups and inland U.S. land transport/trucking through our in-house logistics company Boatlogistic.com, Inc.
Pre-Export Preparation – Sanitation, Fumigation, De-gassing of refrigerants.
Australia has (as you probably know already) very specific and strict
import restrictions for boats and vessels. The governing body is the
Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) which is part of the Australian Government’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
Depending on the geographical location of the boat and the required
preparation of the vessel we can either prepare the boat for export to
Australia while underway, or we can have it completed at our marina in
Pompano Beach, Florida.
Australian Shipping Services Team – our Australian Shipping Services Team assist with Sanitize boats & yachts prior to port delivery – AQIS will stop all boats that are dirty and soiled to check for insect/parasite infestations
Fumigation of boats and cradles according to AQIS-standard (Methyl Bromide 3.0 lbs / 1,000 cubic feet / 24 hrs)

With our certificates our customer are NOT REQUIRED to obtain the otherwise very expensive Australian import licenses.
Trailer Import Permit Assistance
The Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure and
Transport requires that all imported boat trailers have an Import
Approval. You can read more about the approval at the Department’s website or you can download the .pdf-application “Import a Small Road Trailer” here.
Import Duties and Goods and Services Tax (GST)
If you’re buying a US-made boat, according to the United
States-Australia Free Trade Agreement, you aren’t required to pay the 5%
duty (as we’ll supply the required waiver forms). You must, however pay
10% GST on all costs associated with the purchase of the the boat,
ocean freight, duty, wharf charges, customs broker fees, and destination
port fees..
ISPM-15 – No Worries Mate – We Fumigate All Wooden Cradles & Provide Proof of Fumigation
International Standards For Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) is
an International Phytosanitary Measure developed by the International
Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) that directly addresses the need to
treat wood materials of a thickness greater than 6mm, used to ship
products between countries. Its main purpose is to prevent the
international transport and spread of disease and insects that could
negatively affect plants or ecosystems. ISPM 15 affects all wood
packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnages, etc.) requiring that they
be debarked and then heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide and
stamped or branded,[1] with a mark of compliance. This mark of
compliance is colloquially known as the “wheat stamp”. Products exempt
from the ISPM 15 are made from alternative material, like paper, plastic
or wood panel products (i.e. OSB, hardboard, and plywood).
Customs Broker Fees & Destination Charges in Australia
There’s tons of websites out there claiming to be the
know-it-all for import questions concerning boats & yachts to
Australia. Fortunately, we are not one of them. While we can recommend
quite a few competent companies in Australia it is ultimately up to you
to pick a customs partner in your home port. As is true for all facets
of our business we believe that there are no shortcuts to sustained
success in business (or life for that matter). That said we recommend
that you seek the advice of an Australian Customs Broker who is licensed
by the “Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia Inc” – CBFCA-Australia Website to inquire about recent legal and import changes pertaining to your planned import.
