Conscious Collection 2016
This season’s Conscious Exclusive collection has been inspired by the
exhibition “Fashion Forward — Three Centuries of Fashion” at Musée des Arts
Décoratifs in Paris.
The exhibition, located in the Palais du Louvre, covers 300 years of high
fashion from the world’s most influential designers.
This year, the H&M design team has worked closely with Musée des
Arts Décoratifs to find inspiration for Conscious Exclusive. Unique access to
the museum’s costume archives, and the museum itself, has resulted in a
glamorous line of modern red carpet pieces infused with tactile charm,
nostalgic aesthetics and a historical legacy.
Paintings by the French symbolist Gustave Moreau have inspired the
colour palette of this collection, and the prints are created from varied
elements of his artworks.
Conscious Exclusive S/S 2016 pays homage to the history of art and true
craftsmanship. Inspiration from 300 years of high fashion has been juxtaposed
with French artwork in order to create a captivating collection, produced in a
range of more sustainable fabrics.
Key pieces from the collection are the blouse inspired by an artist’s
smock, the richly woven jacquard coat and a range of dresses in a variety of
feminine silhouettes. Conscious Exclusive features both clothing and
accessories made from materials that are better for the planet, including
organic silk, linen and hemp, recycled denim and embellishments made from
recycled glass.
The collection is presented by Parisian art director and style maven
Julia Restoin Roitfeld. Her commitment to sustainable fashion and engagement in
environmental issues make her the ideal representative for the Conscious
philosophy.
