Maximum length is 10.5 inches.  Minimum length is 7.25 inches.  Another hole could be punched to make it longer.  There is lots of room for more holes to make it shorter.  It is thick by the standard of these straps, but soft and flexible for comfort and fit.  It has a rugged appearance without actually being heavy.

Why are NATO straps so long?  How do you attach a NATO strap?

The reason for the extra length is that so you can also put the strap over your outer clothing and still be able to read the  watch. http://vimeo.com/52442955   -  -http://forums.watchuseek.com/f365/how-install-adjust-nato-style-strap-287242.html.  The original NATO straps were nylon and meant to go over a wet suit or dry suit, as well as just fit on a wrist in tropical water.  They were also used by Pilots, and had to fit over uniforms and flight jackets (for which they tended to be short).  The leather NATO straps should fit over a jacket.  I use mine skiing so that I can read a watch on the slopes.  Unlike a regular watch strap, if one side becomes detached, you don't lose the watch.

The straps also work well for people with extra wide wrists, and additional holes can be punched to make the watch even tighter.  If teh extra length is too long for your taste, the end can be cut off and re-stitched by a shoe repair shop or tailor.
