Would you like your models to stand out from the crowd? Have you always wanted to fit lighting to your model aircraft, but just didn't know how? Here at Raven Scale Models we have developed a range of kits that allow you to install realistic aircraft lighting to your models, as you build. The Beacons Model Lighting Kit is a ready-to-fit, self-contained LED lighting kit, for installation as you construct your model aircraft, featuring a pre-programmed generic lighting sequence, including authentic strobe effects.
The lighting kits are suitable for larger scale and larger-sized smaller-scale model aircraft. Each Beacons Model Lighting Kit in the range suits up to a maximum given wingspan – 300mm, 400mm, 500mm and 600mm – so each size is suitable for a wide range of aircraft kits. They are very well suited to 1:48, 1:32 and 1:24 kits and will also fit comfortably in a 1:72 scale Douglas C-47 Dakota Skytrain (wingspan 40cm/16"), for example. Compatibility depends mainly upon the wingspan, but also on the fuselage girth and wing profile, as there must be enough room to accommodate the button cells and chip in the fuselage*, and the wires and LEDs in the wings. A fibre optic extension option gives increased accessibility to confined spaces, as well as enhancing the scale effect.
No wiring is visible once the lighting kit is installed and the model build completed. The system is switched externally using a magnet, which triggers a magnetic reed switch that is housed within the body of the plane. To allow the battery cells to be replaced, a small modification may be needed, to create a removable and replaceable panel on the fuselage. Some kits, such as the Dakota, have a door that is well-suited to this task. Bomb bay doors are also a good point of access.
All soldering and crimp connections are complete (we've done all that for you). Each kit comes with comprehensive instructions, plus the offer of our advice and support should you encounter any hitches during installation.
