We are offering a painted undecorated MAHANTONGO VALLEY Pennsylvania dowry chest / trunk.. Exact age unknown but believe to be from the 1810-1830s era referring to design and construction..

Superb early Pennsylvania German furniture craftsmanship.. Great form.. Dovetail front and back box.. Square nails.. Straight saw marks noted.. ALL ORIGINAL hand painted dry red wash finish with black border accent and feet.. GORGEOUS turned mortis and tenon feet through the bottom.. RARE Original BALDWIN hinges.. Appears lock and latch may have been replaced at some point.. Inner lidded till.. On back a knot in the wood came out with natural wood shrinkage - it has been saved and in the till for decades.. A fine Pennsylvania primitive piece..

CONDITION:: Overall very good for age.. Amazing it survived.. BEAUTIFUL original paint finish intact showing appropriate minor wear and distressing.. Appropriate wood oxidation and wood shrinkage.. Legs are loose at mortis and tenon joint due to natural shrinkage , but intact , solid and sturdy.. See photos for condition and details..
