Vauxhall Nova Sport 1300cc, Grp A National Rally Championship 1987, Colin McRae & Derek RingerItem code: VA11401Colin McRae was Britain’s most successful rally driver, winning the World Championship in 1995 and taking victory in 25 World Championship events. Colin’s flamboyant, sideways driving style, whether on the snows of Sweden, the rocky unforgiving roads of the Acropolis or on the ultimate challenge through the Sahara on the Dakar, endeared him to fans and rivals around the world. Colin McRae Motorsport Ltd & Corgi have teamed up to produce a collection of 1:43 scale die-cast replica models as a lasting memorial to Colin McRae MBE. The full collection of 14 models will be released between 2009 and the end of 2011. Having had a year’s experience, Colin wanted a bigger challenge and acquired a Nova in order to enter the 1987 National Championship. With Nicky Jack’s work commitments meaning he was unable to commit to a more ambitious programme, avionics engineer Derek Ringer took over the navigator’s role, which he would occupy for nine years. The pair ended their first season seventh overall and convincing class winners in the National Series, the highlight being a class victory on the Manx. In only his second season, aged just 19, Colin had moved from being Jimmy’s boy to being spoken of as a genuinely promising new talent.
