Offered for your consideration is a very nice example of Chicago Cutlery's popular 42S chef's knife.  These vintage, American-made CC knives are grossly under-rated for the exceptional quality and performance they offer.  CC moved their production to Asia several years ago now, and these old U.S. made models are becoming more difficult to find.  Interest in these fine knives has really picked up during the past couple years and nice examples of the more popular and scarcer models have become difficult to come by.  The high-carbon blades easily take a wicked edge that's simple to maintain.  The biggest challenge with this particular model is not in finding one, as they're readily available.  However, they're very difficult to find without substantial dishwasher damage to the handle.  They generally have handle wood that's been dried out, bleached/faded, and/or warped from repeated dishwasher exposure.  The hot water and detergents remove the wood's natural oils and cause grain separation with a tired, washed-out appearance.  The handle on this example remains very nice and it has a great look all the way around.

The knife has seen moderate use and remains in excellent condition with no problems.  The beautiful American Walnut handle remains rock-solid and very nice.  It shows none of the common dishwasher fade/bleaching with just a touch of normal sink washing water exposure.  The handle also shows none of the associated gapping/warping with the wood remaining tight to the tang over the entire length with no voids or spaces.  The thick scales were tightly pinned and they're free of any cracks, splits, or damage with just a bit of normal wear.  The markings are light, but they do remain visible.  The silky-smooth wood has a warm, rich appearance to complement its great feel.  The blade has been lightly sharpened and it's free of any grinder marks or harsh sharpening abrasions with just a few fine hairline sharpening abrasions as shown.  The edge is free of any chips, cracks, or damage and remains very nice with just some normal wear.  It remains somewhat sharp and the knife is ready for immediate use, although a quick touch-up would have it razor sharp in no time.  The needle-sharp tip is intact and original with no blunting, burrs, or bending.

The knife measures 13" in overall length.

This would be an excellent replacement piece or spare for an older set.  It would also be great as a stand-alone knife for anyone who appreciates fine, American-made cutlery.

An excellent, original example of this classic, American-made knife!!
