Beautiful old and original cast iron enamelled Doufeu casserole or cocotte by French manufacturer, Cousances.

Cousances designed this type of casserole which has a dished top to fill with water so that cooking temperatures are even in all kinds of oven.
(this was especially useful in wood fired or solid fuel ovens, such as Rosieres and Aga).

A superb pot roaster, number 12, oval in shape measuring 29 x 22 cms and 11 cms deep.

This one is in the traditional orange.

Cousances were successful innovators in the making of enamelled cast iron pots, and were taken over by Le Creuset who then acquired their designs and techniques and continued to make pots in the factories of both companies.

Generally in excellent condition for its age and very clean inside,
There is a hairline crack in one of the handles, with a small chip underneath it, please see photos.
