Original Fault Cause
BMW E38 E39 E53 Speedometer failing LCD pixel fault is caused by the connection failing on the original ribbon where it is connected to the PCB contact pads, this is due to the PCB heating up and cooling down expanding and contracting thus causing the bonding glue to fail and tracks on the ribbon at the contact to break and crack.
Solve Fault
Here at AKSpeedo we offer a bespoke Non Bond ribbon cable that is made by us in the UK, that uses mechanical pressure from the clamps that are already in the unit instead of bonding glue, this way of fitting the ribbon allows the PCB to expand and contract without damaging the ribbon, if fitted correctly the ribbon will fix the pixel problem for the units lifetime. Our ribbon cables will work in all types of weather conditions. Examples of BMW units that use this type of LCD connection (Non Bond) already and don't have pixel failing problems E46 speedometer LCD and E39 Low speedometer (with small LCD display) speaks for itself!
Our Ribbon Cable
Our ribbon cable is much thicker and stronger than the original BMW ribbon so can be fitted more than once encase of any mistakes during fitting, just peel off and refit again an again, the cable also has an insulation strip thus stopping any tracks shorting against metal parts of the repair unit. Chinese Bonded ribbons do not have these feature's. 1 year Warranty but will last the lifetime of the car if fitted correctly.
