Here we have a relatively rare and highly collectable decorative antique Japanese export pottery: a Kakiemon pair of hand painted cylindrical shaped cream coloured pottery (satsuma style) vases or brush pots.

The vases have been hand painted in polychrome enamels each with different paintings. One has two depictions of various flowers which include chrysanthemums and also prunus blossom. The other also has floral painting but includes two flying cranes and a number of butterflies. They both have the same green band to the base and green and iron red elliptical floral border to the rim.

The vases are each signed in hand painted kanji radicals on the side of the vases, between the paintings, towards the base, which we believe to state:  Nippon ( Nihon - Japan), Kyoto, Kinkozan zo (made),  

金庫残造.  

Kinkozan were the famous family of potters who worked in the Awata pottery district near Kyoto on the island of Honshu, Japan. These vases date from the late 19th to early twentieth century and from the Meiji period (1868-1912) . 

 The vases are approximately 9 7/8 inches high (one is marginally taller than the other, they are hand thrown) both are 4 3/8 inches diameter.

They weigh 2165 grammes unpacked. They are too heavy for shipping outside the UK by Royal Mail. We have given indicative prices for shipping by courier, please note that these prices may vary significantly depending upon your location.

Condition of items: Photographs form part of the description and any defects (if present) are normally included within  the photographs. Every effort is made to describe damage or faults accurately, where possible with the help of pictures. However, before bidding would-be buyers should be aware that most listed items are antiques and some may have small blemishes associated with age and wear, deemed too minor to merit specific mention and not regarded as sufficient cause for a refund.
