Original 1914 Antique Snapshot PHOTOGRAPHS Elephant Day FENWAY PARK Baseball History RARE

From the June 7th, 1914 Boston Globe newspaper:

"Some 40,000 persons, most of them eager children who contributed small sums to aid the Boston Post in obtaining for the city of Boston, the three clever elephants, Tony, Waddy and Mollie, crowded Fenway Park to its capacity yesterday morning to witness the formal presentation of the animals to the city and an excellent entertainment.

Gov Walsh presented the elephants to Mayor Curley and the latter called for three cheers for the Post. The welcome extended to the three elephants when they appeared upon the field was deafening.

Besides the performance of the elephants there were acts of various professional entertainers, a band concert and dances by children. … After the entertainment there was a parade to South Station, where the elephants were shipped in a special car to Franklin Park."

An amazing piece of Fenway Park history in the form of two matted photographs from Elephant Day at Fenway Park in June of 1914 just 2 years and 2 months after the stadium opened!

The photographs depict the three elephants on the diamond with a large crowd of people gathered around.  The infamous right field grandstand and seating along the first base line can be seen towering behind the field!  Two truly amazing images from an event with very little photographic history which happened over 102 years ago!

These photos are matted to black photo album paper and have wonderfully penned headers which read "Boston, Mass.", "Elephant Day, Fenway Park", " June, 1914." And " Tony, Woodie, Mollie" which were the names of the elephants.  The photo album page was carefully removed from a wealthy Massachusetts politicians family photo album and are guaranteed original.  Further the matting and amazing handwritten captions make this display perfect and ready for framing!

Photos are in Good condition with one showing some light staining/spotting and the other being in Excellent condition; clean and bright!  No rips, tears or creases to either photo.  The black paper stock is in Excellent condition and is also very well preserved and exhibits only one light boarder tear (see photos).

Each photo measures 4 5/8" x 2 3/4" and the entire piece measures 14 1/4" x 10 3/4".
