The price is for all three pieces. A delightful marbled pattern, red-brown meandering veins interlace the creamy white, slightly translucent base in this earthy gemstone. Pink Web Jasper makes a great choice for natural jewellery designs. Especially those designs to be worn for casual wear, a terrific compliment to rich browns and luxuriant greens. One of the lesser-known varieties of Jasper, this gemstone will make a welcome change in your jewellery collection, adding variety and expanding your range as this unusual gemstone is unlikely to be seen elsewhere. Jasper draws its name from the old French 'Jaspre' and means 'Speckled Stone' or 'Spotted Stone'. An opaque gemstone (you can't see through it) of almost any colour derived from the varying mineral make-up of the original rock. Intricate patterns and distinguishing formations within the gemstone that come about are formed during the consolidation process. The Jasper than then be further modified by seemingly organic growths called Dendritic inclusions. Then pressures and weathering often fracture or distort into many varied and beautiful patterns and swirls into which other colourful minerals are deposited. In the ancient world Jasper is certainly known to be a favoured Gemstone, On Crete, seals carved from Jasper, dating from 1800 B.C., almost 4000 years old! Were found in the palace of Knossos. Even older than that, Green Jasper was found to be used to make bow drills in Mehrgarh as early as 4000 B.C. to 5000 B.C. Jasper includes an extreamly wide range of types, so much so that even a simple thing as nameing of the types can prove to be something of a trial. Some are given excitingly romantic names, such as Rainbow Jasper or Exotica Jasper, others go by the more indentifying name, focusing on the visual characteristic of the gemstone, such as Dalmation Jasper or Poppy Jasper. Often Jasper are identified from where they are mined, such as Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper, others are much more vague, giving only the country of origin, such as Egyptian Jasper. Finally, others don't include the name Jasper at all, such as Mookaite or Bloodstone. Confusing stuff but they all share this same characteristic - they all make beautiful gemstones.
