First published in 1963, The Psychedelic Review is considered the granddaddy of the various psychedelic publications of the 1960's. Only 11 issues were published between 1963 to 1971 when the publication folded.  The magazine's early years deal primarily with ethno-botanic, medical and sociological topics, while there is a clear shift towards getting with the freakout hippie times from 1967 on. The periodical was edited by Ralph Metzner, an American psychologist, writer and researcher, born in Germany, who participated in psychedelic research at Harvard University in the early 1960s with Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert. Timothy Leary had the position of Contributing Editor, and a whole slew of Consulting Editors included Richard Alpert (who later changed his name to Ram Dass), Alan Watts, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Stanislaus Grof, Stanley Krippner, among others.

While there are numerous worth articles in this issue, ones of particular note are: "The Use of Psychedelic Agents with Autistic Schizophrenic Children" by Robert E. Mogar & Robert W. Aldrich; "LSD and Sexuality" by Richard Alpert; and "The Effects of Consciousness Expanding Drugs on Prisoner Rehabilitation" by Timothy Leary. (It wouldn't be long before Leary himself was incarcerated on drug-related charges.) Also, this magazine includes art (and photography) by Allen Atwell, Adger Cowans, Dion Wright, Diane Bolton, Susan Frahm, Nat Finkelstein, Mati Abdul Klarwein (Miles Davis - Bitches Brew, Santana - Abraxas album covers, among many others). There is also a full-page ad for Tim Leary's 'High Priest' book and other psychedelic-tinged ads, such as the one for Sound Spectrum in Laguna Beach, CA.

This is the one of the more scarce issues of The Psychedelic Review.The cover has a few smudges and a little edge wear but overall, very good condition. 8.5" x 11"
