' It was during the early 80's that Lady Powell and I went on a three month tour of remote Tibet. The principal reason for our being there was that LP had developed an interest in her family tree, notably her possible lineage to the Himalayan Yeti. So of we quested and did well enough, that is until our porters buggered off from fear of the Yeti and the blighters took all our kit! The temperature dropped and I naturally took shelter behind LP's considerable bulk. But it wasn't enough. We began to freeze, the game was up! Or it would have been had not a local Yak herder come along. This chap saw our desperate straights and offered us a hard deal; he would give us a two man tent if I would give him LP for the night! What a cad and scoundrel asking such a terrible price. LP came back in the morning and woke me from a deep sleep, for the little pup tent had served me a treat. Sadly the tent has to go, LP simply hates the bally thing! She's so techy! '

  • We prefer these as an easy option lean to shelter; the two piece combine to make a pretty fair small tent but we feel they perform better as one man shelter and then use the other half as a ground sheet or improvised roof extension - in the manner of the Baker tent. These are good fun bits of kit that can improved in the woods with sawed branches etc. Also the single shelter half when sited carefuly works well with a small fire and reflector - just be careful with sparks!

The picture of the high-rise shelter uses an additional old tent pole -not supplied - and a couple of old guy lines. A trekking pole or nicely off- cut of branch would do the same job.

Some folks knock pups tents and with some good reason but used with care these ones serve well as a simple and easy to use shelter with that old time feel. If nothing else you get two new ponchos!

A lot of kit and options for your £££s
