"The word "Smena" is roughly translated into "Young Generation" in English. True to its name, the Smena line of cameras were designed to provide inexpensive, accessible, and excellent photography tools to the hard-working young Soviets of the time. Manfactured by the legendary LOMO production house of St. Petersburg."

The Smena was a viewfinder camera for 35mm film developed and made by GOMZ. Since 1957 it was also manufactured by MMZ. The Smena went through at least 15 versions, running until the 1990s. The first variant was the flash snychronized Smena-2 of 1955.
The Smena had a bakelite body and was equipped with a three element lens (Cooke triplet) with a leaf shutter. Early versions had separate shutter release lever on the lens and a frame counter release button on top of the body, later series were equipped with a single button on the body combining both functions. Smena, as well as all subsequent versions till the Smena 7, had no film rewind capability and two cassettes had always to be used.
Common to all Smena cameras is, that they accept 35mm film, the frame size is "normal" 24x36mm, shutter speeds are 1/10, 1/25,1/50, 1/100, 1/200, "B".

This cameras also have a common 4cm (40mm) T-22 (T-43) triplet lens
