The Wayuu inhabit the Guajira Peninsula on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, they are a community actively trying to maintain their traditions and cultures, including the craft of weaving.

These bags are the embodiment of the Wayuu weaving culture.  They are hand made through the process of crochet and the development of a single bag can take upwards of 20 days.  These colorful products were originally influenced by the Spaniards who made use of vibrant colours and acrylics in there textiles.

These handmade bags demonstrate the cultural characteristics of the Wayuu people with their strong colours and complex patterns,  the more intricate the pattern the more labour intensive the process and thus, the greater the value.

We invites you to appreciate these works of art and help to preserve this ancient tradition!
