This is a beautiful 19th century French solid 18K 2-color gold sewing etui in fitted bone box. The box has scrimshaw lid, looks like initials, but I think just a fancy design. Inside the set includes matching scissors and thimble, with needlecase and a plain 18K gold bodkin needle that is inside the needlecase. This bodkin does not have a fitting inside the carved fitted box, but there is an empty space where a missing stiletto punch would have been. The thimble and scissors have some green gold flower and leaf accent bands. All the gold pieces have tiny French 18K hallmarks and in very good condition. The scissors also have maker's mark "PL" inside the handles. The needlecase fits quite tightly inside case, needs gentle tug to get it out. The one stiletto piece is clearly missing, set is exactly how I acquired at Paris flea market.
Scissors are 4" long and weigh 12.98 grams.
Needlecase with the bodkin weigh 17.75 grams.
Thimble weighs 4.2 grams.
All these 4 pieces guaranteed solid 18K (except nice pointy steel blades on scissors) and together weigh just under 35 grams.
The case is 4-5/8" x 2-1/4" and has lovely hinges and front push-button opening. It is as lovely as the contents with most minimal signs of age and no damage.
