For sale today is the above pictured brass (or copper, but pretty sure is brass) Welsh made coal mine safety lamp. I had to list is as used simply because it has been in my possession for years. It has never been lit or filled with fluid. This lamp, from the information I have deduced and the maker's mark stamped on the lower portion of the lamp, was possibly made by descendants of Welsh miners themselves. It is stamped "Made in Wales Phoenix Supply Bishopston Swansen". I am not well versed in the geography of Wales, but I remember seeing online that these high quality reproductions were made by a local historical group over there. This is an extremely well made reproduction lamp, not sure on the age. It is very heavy and appears to be made of brass, maybe copper. The glass may or may not be Pyrex glass. I do not see any wire mesh on the internal portion of the lamp, PLEASE DO NOT BRING THIS INTO A COAL MINE TO TEST FOR BLACK DAMP OR METHANE, IT MAY CAUSE A METHANE EXPLOSION AS THIS IS A REPRODUCTION & APPEARS TO BE A SHOWCASE PIECE. With all this said however, it is a sweet lamp, this is not some garbage Chinese or Indian reproduction. This took someone a long time to make & they knew what they were doing. This has only minor scuffing, will clean up nice. Feel free to make an offer or message me with any questions. FEEL FREE TO MAKE ME AN OFFER!! Thanks for looking!
