This is what the PROS use! Never get taken again when buying jewelry online or at Estate/Yard sales.
Please examine the photos of this Ebay description listing page. Please review the gold engagement ring, and see how the letters of the fine print shows clear read-through effect, THIS IS NOT DIAMOND! Examine the white gold pendant in the above photos, notice how the read-through effect is faint, this is because of the size of the stone is much smaller, but again, THIS IS NOT DIAMOND! Stones that display read-through effect on fine print are NOT DIAMOND! It is best to test with Round brilliants and ovals and some fancy cut stones.
Refractive Index reading for Rutile R.I. 2.61-2.91 Displays NO READ-THROUGH
Refractive Index reading for Moissanite R.I. 2.65-2.69 Displays NO READ-THROUGH
Refractive Index reading for Diamond R.I. 2.42 Displays NO READ-THROUGH
Refractive Index reading for Strontium Titanate R.I. 2.39 NO READ-THROUGH
Refractive Index reading for Cubic Zirconia R.I. 2.15-2.25 Slight Read-Through
Refractive Index reading for Gadolinium Gallium Garnet R.I. 1.97 Slightly Good Read-through

Refractive Index reading for White Topaz R.I. 1.61-1.64 VERY CLEAR READ-THROUGH
Refractive Index reading for Faceted Glass R.I. 1.52 Extremely CLEAR READ-THROUGH
* You will see from the above Refractive Index listings that three simulants display high Refractive indices and DO NOT show read-through effect. These are all easily separated because of HIGH DISPERSION OR DOUBLE REFRACTION characteristics that they display! Strontium Titanate is the only simulant with similar Refractive Index readings as Diamond that is Singly Refractive.
* Testing tip for Cubic Zirconia, Faceted Glass, White Sapphire, White Topaz, Colorless Zircon. All of these above stones have lower refractive indices as Diamond. These stones will all show the read through-effect, some greater than others. Zircon and Cubic Zirconia may require the loupe to distinguish read-through effect. These all can be easily separated by using a small fine print and seeing if you could make out the letters. *Only works best on round brilliants, and some types of oval and fancy cuts. Please reference image provided in the above Ebay photos of this listing to understand the read-through effect. Examine the photo of Cubic Zirconia placed table down on top of a black dot. This is the Dot Test, Cubic Zirconia has lower Refractive Index than Diamond and will display the Black dot clearly. Other natural Stones not provided! Only for demonstration purposes only! All simulant and natural stones in this Ebay listing taken are examined using a millimeter gauge under 8x magnification (NOT PROVIDED ONLY FOR DEMONSTRATION PURPOSES. You will only receive (1) 6.5mm Round brilliant Cubic Zirconia specimen stone.
Please continue reading down below of how to perform various tests.
* This kit will only include (1) 6.5mm round brilliant Cubic Zirconia AA-AAA grade VVS-VS D color 1 carat Diamond equivalent simulant specimen stone. You can use this to study facet rounding with your 30x triplet loupe included in this kit. This specimen is good to use in distinguishing the poor thermal conductivity properties of Cubic Zirconia (FOG TEST). Use this specimen stone as a gauge for the Culti Selector II Diamond Tester NOT provided in this kit! Test the loose stone in the aluminum testing tray NOT provided in this kit. Specimen Cubic Zirconia stone should only go up 1-2 bars on the Volume intensity meter of Conventional Diamond Testers NOT PROVIDED IN THIS KIT.
Understand the density of certain gemstones to accurately calculate the estimated total carat weight of your jewelry! Use the PuriTEST Specific gravity Sheet provided in this kit to accurately calculate gemstone estimated weight! Your Cubic Zirconia specimen test stone will gauge as 6.5mm according to the Gemstone estimated Diamond gauge and will show as 1 carat. Remember this gauge only references known density of (Diamond 3.52 Specific Gravity)! Cubic Zirconia is roughly 1.6-1.8 times as dense as Diamond. Cubic Zirconia has a density from 5.6-6.15 Specific Gravity, depending solely on the stabilizers that are used in the proprietary formulation of CZ! Example 6.5mm round Cubic Zirconia specimen stone should weigh approximately 1.7-1.8 carats.
Also you can understand the Visual Optic spectrum that Cubic Zirconia displays. Cubic Zirconia displays slightly different visual spectrums and has more dispersion and scintillation than Diamond! I will also include a random fortune cookie fortune along with this kit so you can better understand the Refractive Index of Cubic Zirconia. (Examine the photo above of a White Topaz displaying the numbers of the fortune cookie). White Topaz has a Refractive Index reading of 1.6-1.64 approximately. Cubic Zirconia will show a slight read-through effect (Cubic Zirconia has a refractive index of 2.2-2.25).
Please review Ebay photos if performing the Visual Optic test. This test will not require the loupe. This will only require your eyes and a light source.
Visual Optics
This method costs nothing, and only uses your eyes and a light source. Light source could be a pen light, an old incandescent light bulb, or even the moon light shining in through your window.
How to test: If testing in set jewelry make sure to place stone as close to your eyeball without touching your eyeball! If you wear contacts, then you are ahead of the game! Place stone close to eye and peer through stone to light source.
Using Visual Optics on Diamonds you will see what appears as a night sky of small sharp stars scattered through out. I.D. of Diamond.
Using Visual Optics on Silicon Carbide "Moissanite" you will see what appears as a blizzard of wonderful colored snowflakes. I.D. of Silicon Carbide "Moissanite".
Viewing the above photos of this listing will show you the effects of read-through of Glass,Cubic Zirconia, White Topaz, and White Sapphire. Please view the photos above, this will show in the photos of this Ebay listing. Cubic Zirconia also is a poor thermal conductor, the Diamond Tester NOT provided in this kit, will show you this, only going up at the most one or two bars on the intensity volume meter. If you breath on your test Cubic Zirconia specimen it will fog for more than three seconds. If performing this test please make sure the stone is free from all oils, dirt and grime. Wipe with a soft microfiber cloth (provided in this kit), or paper towel.
The Cubic Zirconia 6.5mm Round brilliant specimen stone provided will give you a valuable indication of performing the visual optics test. Cubic Zirconia performs very similar spectrum patterns as diamond, the main reason of the popularity of Cubic Zirconia in the marketplace today! Moissanite on the other hand displays greats amount of dispersion and scintillation! Moissanite is compared to as a Disco ball effect. Comparing your test specimen Cubic Zirconia to moissanite you will see very clearly that the stone is definitely off!
The best way to observe this effect is to view the gemstone at an angle from the crown (bezel) facet. By bringing a 10X loupe and focusing on the culet through the bezel facet, you can check the gemstone for a “doubling” facets effect.
Using the above various methods of testing provided in this in depth Ebay description will give you accurate non destructive means of identification. Visual Optic identification, along with read-through effect Refractive Index testing, and the thermal conductivity diamond Culti Selector II tester NOT provided in this kit, will provide the best means of identifying questionable stones.
The information provided in this description page is very vital information to perform various tests, and have the most accurate results! It should be read and completely understood. Please continue reading down below for more important vital information.

PuriTest TM 30X Jewelers Triplet Loupe 30x 21mm NEW IN CASE
*Instructions for testing for *Moissanite* using a 30x triplet loupe. Diamonds are graded by laboratories using a standard 10x loupe. With using 30x triplet you are 3x the magnification of an ordinary 10x loupe. This allows you to view the crown bezel facets with the stone in question at an angle and look through into the culet. Angle of tilt (C-AXIS) and observe the culet through the crown facets. Again, the doubling effect shows up and this should confirm your suspicion.
* Please reference my photos of my listings.
This allows me to actually show you what to look for!
In the images provided above in the listing photos you can see what angle you need to tilt the stone in question to determine double refractive properties. This takes some time to master but once you master this technique it takes literally seconds to make the determination. Moissanite testers are good to have but shouldn't be relied upon. Moissanite testers are in my personal opinion overpriced compared to a basic inexpensive jeweler's loupe!
Loupe comes in Cardboard PuriTest box and a case for carrying and protection!
Ultra Violet 9 LED Flashlight Blacklight Torch Light Black Aluminum Case and key chain
* Tips for identifying Synthetic Lab Grown Cultured Diamonds
Check the fluorescence using a modified technique. If the stone is a Type II diamond, examine the stone with an ultraviolet lamp that provides long-wave and shortwave emission. Note the reaction under each wavelength. To use the ultraviolet lamp to determine whether the stone is a natural or synthetic diamond, do the following:
In 2009, the United States secret service seized over $182 million dollars in counterfeit currency. In 2008, the secret service seized $103 million. The Federal Reserve estimates that at any given time, between $60 million and $80 million are in global circulation.
Please reference the above images for using the Ultra-Violet light on currency! Look through all pictures of this listing please!!! This helps me help you understand what to look for.
All authentic US currencies have security threads embedded in the fabric of the bill. Under the view of an ultra-violet light, the security thread will glow a specific color according to the bill’s denomination. See the image above!
Examples:Security thread will glow pink/red in a 100, yellow in a 50, green in a 20, orange in a 10, blue in a 5.
This ULTRAVIOLET tool has so many things THAT IT CAN TEST FOR! This is the must have tool for ANYONE that handles cash on a daily basis! This tool will pay for itself if you only come across one counterfeit note in your lifetime!
