BBC Model B - 1770 Disk Interface Upgrade Kit

This is a Buy-It-Now sale for a new 1770 Disc Interface Upgrade kit for the BBC Micro Model B. It is not for the Model B+, I can supply you a kit of parts for that machine if you require it.

Our latest issue new full disc interface upgrade kit for the BBC Micro Model B, which allows you to connect floppy disc drives to your Beeb. Ideal for fitting to a machine that is currently running as cassette only, or that has an 8271, or one of the more "strange" interfaces.

The 1770 disc interface kit supersedes the older 8271 type interface, and has several enhancements:

• Supports double density, allowing the use of the ADFS filing System
• Faster disc access
• Built in formatting and verify commands
• Allows the use of 3.5" disc drives as well as the original 5.25"

This kit uses the later 1772 chip, which is even faster than the 1770, and loads, formats and saves quicker. The board is compatible with the Acorn ADFS system, as well as other DFS filing systems, such as Watford Electronics DDFS 1.54T. This system is also fully compatible with discs written with the earlier 8271, so if you have an older disc collection, the new 1770 based boards will still be able to use them all quite happily.

Comes will all the additional parts and accessories needed, including a faithful reprint of the Disc Filing System User Guide, fitting instructions, and the Acorn DFS 2.26 on ROM, which also includes the SRAM commands, enhancing the use of Sideways RAM, if you have it fitted.

Our board is designed to hang to the left of the DFS socket. Other 1770 boards you may see available hang to the right, and may obscure the fitment of ROM boards such as the ATPL Sidewise, unless stood up in a multitude of sockets, which is not only unsightly, but means they can easily come loose. With our board coming complete with printed manual and install guide, ensure you bear this in mind when choosing which interface to purchase.

Please see the photos attached showing the kit and contents. The board has an additional removable socket, so you can sit it lower in your machine if required, and it also protects the pins, being easily replaceable if you should bend and break one.
