HOW TO MEASURE:- Curtains

Measuring the width

We always advise that you measure the curtain track or pole width, not the window. If you are fitting a new track or pole this should extend 15 cm to 20 cm either side of the window. This will allow the curtains to be stacked either side of the window.

Curtain Poles

Measure the length of the pole between the finials (decorative ends).

Curtain Rails

Measure the length of the rail. If you have a rail with an overlap in the centre, measure the length of the rail and add the length of the overlap to this measurement.

Measuring the drop

The length of your curtains will depend on your preference. Typical length measurements are as follows.

A: Full length which is approximately 1.5 to 3 cm above floor level

B: Above radiator typically 1 to 3 cm above the radiator.

C: Below the window sill typically around 15 cm. Measure from the top of the track or bottom of the curtain rings for a curtain pole to the desired length of your curtains.

Tab Top & Eyelet Curtains

For Tab Top or eyelet curtains you should take your measurements from the very top of the pole.

Pencil Pleat & Pinch Pleat Curtains

For Pencil Pleat or Pinch Pleat curtains you should take your measurements from where you would like the top of the curtain to be once hung.

HOW TO MEASURE :- Roman Blinds

Measuring for window with a recess

 1.  Use a metal tape measure for accuracy. Measure the width at 3 different points as it may not be consistent along the entire recess. Measure at either end and in the middle, and use the smallest measurement as your width guide.

When ordering Made to Measure blinds to fit within a recess, please provide the exact recess width measurements and we will make the 1cm adjustment for you.

2.    To measure for blind length, take the same approach using the metal tape measure from the top of the recess to the windowsill at 3 points and note the narrowest point. For vertical blinds, we recommend you reduce the length by 1cm to prevent the fabric from catching on the sill.

Measuring for a window without a recess

   1.   Use a metal tape measure for accuracy. Measure across the window width, adding an extra 10cm (4") to the total width to allow a 5cm (2") overlap either side of the window to block out light effectively.

 2.     Decide where you want the bottom of your blind to end and measure the length of the window from the top of the fitting to this point.

How to Order

Simply send over your required measurements, heading type and choice of fabric colour-way to us via 'Contact Seller'.

Payment is accepted via PayPal, BACS Transfer or Cheque once the measurements are finalised.

Turnaround time for orders is usually 28 days from the date the order is paid for, but please enquire.

Please note the following terms & conditions:

The Soft Furnishing Studio is a producer of highest standard made to measure curtains, roman blinds and cushions in upholstery and soft furnishing fabrics.

We do not represent any fabric manufacture, or claim to be an authorised supplier or distributor of their products.

Please ensure you supply the correct measurements on ordering. All Made to Measure items are non-returnable as they are made to your exact specifications.

If you need advice on how to measure, please read our measuring guide or contact us as we are always happy to help!

Turnaround time for made to measure orders is approximately 28- 35 working days, although

if you require your items by a specific date please contact us as we will always do our best to oblige.

We recommend that all curtains, cushions and roman blinds be Dry Cleaned only.

Always allow for 3% shrinkage upon the first Dry Clean.

All of our Made to Measure Curtains are cut on the same pattern repeat. Therefore, in a pair of curtains the left and right curtains will have the same part of the design at the top and bottom.

If you order two pairs of curtains of identical size, in the same fabric, position of the design will be identical in both pairs.

Where a roman blind or a curtain has more than one width of fabric, the fabric will need to be joined and the design will be matched. Roman blinds will be made with a full width of fabric in the centre and even joins on either end.

Some fabrics do not always have perfect alignment of the design straight across the width of the fabric, this can sometimes show with a 4-5% un-match.

When your order is ready we will contact you to let you know your order is on the way. We send all items via UPS, DPD, TNT or Hermes and items will require a signature on delivery.
