Up for sale Microsoft SoftCard for Apple II, IIe computers.

Microsoft's first hardware product was the Softcard, a Z80 coprocessor card that allowed the CP/M operating system to be run on an Apple II. CP/M was a popular operating system for Intel 8080/Zilog Z-80 based systems, and ran on many early microcomputers. It was written in the late 1970's by Gary Kildall, founder of Digital Research, Inc.

The softcard is a plug-in peripheral card for Apple II microcomputer. It contains a Z80A CPU and allows the Apple to run CP/M based software written for microcomputers (Microsoft also sold several programming languages that ran under CP/M, including BASIC, COBOL, and FORTRAN). This is the CP/M Z80 card that pretty much all Apple II Z-80 cards are based on.

The softcard can be used with the Apple II or Apple II Plus microcomputer with a minimum of 48K RAM and one disk drive. The softcard can be used with an Apple Language Card and can utilize 12K of the Language Card's lOK RAM.
