A word about pewter and pewter chess sets. In the United States where this set is made it is illegal to mix in junk metals like lead and cadmium which are toxic and illegal per the Federal Trade Commission guide lines  and it is illegal to call any metal pewter unless it consists of at least 94% tin ( su ) . As strange as it sounds it is not illegal to sell such junk metal in the United States as long as it is made outside the U.S. and the junk metal being called pewter ( it isn't ) from China has lead, cadmium and God knows what else mixed into it. These junk metals do nothing but cut the cost and quality of the item because real pewter is considered a semi precious metal on the New York Commodity Exchange and lead and cadmium are toxic. Cadmium can be passed    through the skin and was banned from cheap jewelry a few years back and we all know that lead is toxic. Our sets are 100 % American made with quality jewelry grade Britannia pewter.
