One of the great novels of the 19th century -- LES MISERABLES, by Victor Hugo.  Set of 4, published by Ernest Flammarion, Paris.  No date given but is mid-late 1800s.  Complete set (all 5 parts through Jean Valjean). IN FRENCH. Bound in half leather (spines, partial fronts and backs and corners) with gilt rules, marbled boards, spines have 5 raised bands with heavy gilt detailing and gilt titles.  Pages are gilt tipped on the top edge.  Marbled paper endpapers.  Very good condition, just slight wear to edges and corners.  All have the bookplate of Charlotte Bloedel.  Charlotte Van Alstyne Bloedel Brechermin(1905-1986) was from a well-known Seattle family of philanthropists, in the logging business (Macmillan Bloedel which eventually became part of Weyerhaeuser).
