This Sentinel 30A "Tombstone" style radio dates back to around 1937 and receives the 530-1600kc AM broadcast band and the 1600-4000kc range of shortwave frequencies. This band includes the 160 meter amateur radio band, the 120 meter tropical broadcast band, and the 80 meter amateur bands. Controls left to right are: On/Off/Volume, Tone Control, Tuning, Band Selector.

The tubes used are: 6D6 (Detector) 6C6 (RF Amplifier) 42 (AF Amplifier) 80 (Rectifier)

NOTE: Functionally, it needs a new A-1251 power transformer to operate or it can be displayed not working as-is. The listing images show the radio being tested with an external power supply providing 6VAC for the heaters and 230VDC for the plate circuit. All circuits have been checked and calibrated. External antenna and ground wires can be connected for best performance.

All of the fixed capacitors and resistors that were out of tolerance have been changed, out of view under the chassis, so the radio appears as it did when manufactured. The original transformer is disconnected and has a short in the 5V rectifier filament winding. The primary winding and 6V heater and plate supply secondaries tested OK.

A new A-1251 transformer or equivalent can be installed to return this radio to operating condition. The plate circuit requires 230VDC @ 40mA max. The rectifier tube requires 5V @ 2A. The 6.3V heater and dial light circuit requires around 1.5A. A solid state rectifier could be installed under the chassis to eliminate the need for the rectifier supply.

This listing is for the Sentinel 30A and does not include the external power supply.
