It is a Nikon rangefinder camera, with a lens mount based on Contax rangefinder cameras. It is not compatible with modern Nikon lenses.

This camera is a Nikon S2, "black dial" version. This is a relatively late version of the S2. Black dial S2 cameras begin at about serial number 6180001 and were made after January 1957, so I would guess this camera was made later in 1957.

The symbol on the film rewind knob means that the camera was sold in a Duty Free military PX store.
