A superb quality rare sterling silver cigarette / vesta box. It is hallmarked S.L. SILVER for sterling silver, most likely made in one of the then colonial countries. It dates to c1940. It has been superbly designed being engine turned to the lid and sides. The inside has been separated into two compartments one for cigarettes / tobacco and the other for matches or a vesta box. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs. The interior is equally perfect. It measures externally almost 4 inches (10cms) across by almost 1.5 inches 6.1cms) wide by over 1.5 inches (4.1cms) tall and internally the match box compartment measures a touch under 2.25 inches (5.5cms) long by 0.75 inch (2cms) wide and the cigarette / tobacco compartment measures 2.75 inches (7.2cms) long by 2.25 inches (5.5cms) wide. It weighs an impressive 216 grams. A top quality rare and unusual piece.
