This is a SUPERB Naim Audio NAC42 preamplifier in the classic Chrome Bumper style. The preamp is in absolutely superb condition - no scratches, dings or marks on it, no nasty nicotine stains or smells, no pet hair, it's a really nice example of a classic NAC42 basically! This is a model with the rarer red LED (not the later green LED style), and it is a perfect match for the NAP110 that I am also selling on Ebay today. If you buy the 42 and 110 together then I can offer some discount on the delivery cost (ask me for shipping rates for both items, and let me know the country I am sending to).
NEVER modified or messed about with, everything is 100% original just like the day it left the Naim factory (I have seen some shocking hatchet jobs done on Naim kit that people have tried to pass off as "upgrades", it is such a shame to see such classic British hi-fi equipment defiled in such a vulgar fashion!!!). I enclose a photo of the insides as proof. Notice the pencil tick mark - this was done in the factory when it was first tested and passed quality control, all original Naim preamps from this era seem to have the "Naim pencil tick mark of quality!". A nice touch I feel. The unit was actually stored away for quite a long time in a dustproof bag, and as you can see it has stayed very clean inside it. The volume and balance controls work smoothly with no "stickiness" feel to them, the rotary source select switch is nice and positive as well with no excessive force needed to turn it and no "sloppiness" in the control knob. Both control knobs are in superb condition and are nice and solid feeling, not half-falling off or wonky or broken like I have seen in the past. I have looked after this unit very carefully all the time I have owned it and it is definitely a collector's quality item.
This NAC42 has a spare upgrade slot to allow the use of phono cards like the NA323 Moving Coil board. There are no phono boards fitted at present. I do have a set of NA323 "S" boards for sale, if you would like them then I will sell to the winning buyer of this NAC42. If the new owner does not need them then I will offer them for general sale to anyone else interested.
The unit is fully working of course, having been used infrequently in my office system until very recently. Please note that NAC42s did NOT come with any cables when they were new from Naim (4 pin DIN cables came with power amps and 5 pin DIN cables came with PSUs), so there are no cables for sale with this unit. If you look at the NAP110 that I am also selling on Ebay, that has the 4 pin DIN cable and IEC power cable with it, exactly like Naim originally supplied it.
