You can build from The Garden Coop plans as-is or use them as a jumping off point for your own creativity and resourcefulness. Here are a few examples of what others are saying and building:

"I couldn't agree more with the testimonials on your website. Your plans were well thought out, detailed, and easy to follow. My wife and I really like how it turned out, and there is just no way I would have been able to do it without your plans."

"I am impressed by your designs for both the coop and the ark. (I actually bought both plans, because I just could not decide which to build!) Thanks a bunch for the quick feedback regarding using 12mm on the back panel. Much appreciated."

—Blair L., Melbourne, Australia

"We and our five chickens are very happy with our coop. I followed the plans almost to the letter (this was my first construction project), except when we got to the henhouse — we used plywood instead of cedar boards and added a recycled egg door. The best part is watching the chickens climb the ladder to bed each evening!"

"I could have tried drawing my own, but for the price I thought better to buy your plans. I might add a few extra supports and sheeting around the bottom as here in Tassie it gets bloody windy, and rain can travel sideways during winter. And I’ve found a big padlock. . . as sure as buggery someone will one day have a go at getting into the pen!"

—Paul B., Tasmania, Australia

"This is the FIRST thing we've ever built — your plan has made it very easy to do and given us the confidence that we can do it. We had fun and learned a lot building this with my father. Now I want to build LOTS of things!!! The chicks are very happy too."

Some frequent questions:

How much do materials cost to build this chicken coop?
Prices will differ by region, store, and, it seems, by the time of day. What I can tell you is that what is on the plan's materials list cost about about $770 USD in 2014. It's probably gone up about 3-5% a year. There are many ways to save on — or add to — this cost. What will save you money for sure is having a clear idea of what you're building, not overbuying, and not mis-measuring and making costly mistakes. A solid plan will help you with that.

Do you offer the plans by instant download or email instead of shipping them on a USB flash drive?
Sorry, but not when purchased through eBay. I will send this eBook by postal mail. Sending it by email or by any other digital delivery method is not allowed and violates eBay policy.

How long does it take to build The Garden Coop chicken coop?
If you've read through the plan, have your materials together, and allow time for treating or sealing the wood, you could build The Garden Coop in 2 to 3 weekends. Past customers have told me this is about right, while others take their time with it, making adaptations, and for them it was a little longer.

What tools will I need to build it?
We designed The Garden Coop walk-in chicken coop and plan for someone with beginner-level skills. The cuts are all straightforward (no tricky angles to measure), and the tools are pretty common ones that you likely either have or can easily borrow or buy. Here's the list from the plan:

  _ Tape measure
  _ Pencil
  _ Circular saw
_ Jig saw (OPTIONAL, for special curves, e.g., windows)
  _ Handsaw
  _ Pair of sawhorses
  _ Hammer
_ Cordless power drill/driver, with various bits
  _ Level
  _ Wire snips
  _ Leather work gloves
  _ Shovel
  _ Ladder
_ Combination square or speed square for marking crosscuts
_ An extra pair of hands, on occasion

Will I be able to find the materials I need to build The Garden Coop?
All of the materials are common in the U.S. and should be easily available in other countries as well. It's a flexible design, so if you have to make some substitutions, you should be fine. Lumber (timber) dimensions do vary somewhat from country to country, and you can adjust measurements accordingly. The roofing material is made by Palram and is available globally. Hardware cloth (extra strong chicken wire) comes in various size rolls depending on location. The right fasteners, hinges, latches, etc. should also be easy to come by.

I shop and work in a mix of metric and imperial units. Can I get both versions of The Garden Coop plan?
Both versions will be included on your USB thumb drive. The metric and imperial versions match up page for page with only a few minor differences.

Do you offer a Satisfaction Guarantee?
Absolutely. Give the plan a try. If it doesn't work out, send it back within 30 days (you pay return shipping), and we'll send you a full refund. No hassle. No questions asked. Satisfaction guaranteed.
