Poster produced by London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) in 1929 promoting rail services to Caernarvon Castle in Wales. Built by Edward I (1239-1307), it was intended as a seat of power, a symbol of English dominance over the subdued Welsh. The mighty Caernarvon Castle today lies in peaceful seclusion facing the quiet waters of the Menai Strait and is in an excellent state of preservation. It is one of the most glorious monuments to Feudalism in the Country. The artist Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971), studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for several railway companies and organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) in 1924.
This is truly an outstanding quality poster. It is printed on Fuji crystal archive photographic paper and is by no means a flimsy poster.
