Used Book in Good Condition

It was once called 'the humour of despair'! Thousands of men worked at the 'Liverpool Docks', stretching for seven miles from the 'Gladstone Dock' to the 'Herculaneum'. Dockers endured many long, poorly-paid, and soul-destroying hours, in what were often dreadful working conditions, but their humour helped them through. This book brings to life the 'fantastic characters', their terrific sense of humour, and wonderful expressions peculiar to themselves, in a collection of true stories that took place on the Liverpool Docks during the 1960s.The book will enlighten, enthrall, and educate, but most of all entertain, and leave you with a greater understanding of a part of Liverpool's history that has gone forever.More information about the book The book is based on co-author Tony's memories of being a young Liverpool docker during the early 1960s. It is packed full of the 'Liverpool dockers' humour', funny true stories; dockers' nicknames; phraseology; working practices and enlightening facts; in fact, it's a social document enveloped in humour! There isn't a book quite like it anywhere. Where would you find a book that comprises page after page of real life humour that took place almost 50 years ago, at a line of docks stretching for seven miles in what was one of the world's premier ports? Well we can say for certain that you won't find it anywhere other than in this book. For such stories to work, you would have to have lived it...which Tony did.The book is an opening to a world that has now gone forever. It is the only access that you will have into the working lives of fantastically funny real life characters who worked on the Liverpool docks.

sThe authors are father and daughter, Tony and Lorraine Sanders. Tony is an ex-Bootle Grammar School boy and ex-Liverpool docker. He was also part of the 60s music scene in Liverpool and played the drums with Billy J Kramer and the Coasters; their manager being none other than Brian Epstein. Tony now plays guitar and sings country music. Lorraine is a graduate from The University of Liverpool. She graduated in July 2007 gaining a BA (Hons) in Sociology. Lorraine has a love for writing. The first thing she wrote was a song with her cousin Debbie when she was eight years old entitled ' Who's that guy'. She has written songs, poems, a short play and a short story for young children but this book is the first piece of work to be published. In a totally unique style, father and daughter have created a book that encapsulates the magic of the 'laugh a minute' spirit of Liverpool, once a premier seafaring port.
