Up for auction is a Large antique 19th century Islamic Amulet Container (Tcherot or Kitab) with a Rare Neo-Tifinagh Inscription of the Tuareg people on the back. It is from southern Morocco. It is sterling silver with an iron back and woven leather cord. The piece measures 3 1/8" wide x 2 7/8" tall. It shows signs of age. Some of the thin stands of leather are missing and two are detached. The piece shows its age but is in all around nice condition. Amulet boxes such as these were worn by Islamic Tuareg men and women in the northern Sahara. Inside Koranic verses and other protective amulets were stored. The amulet does not open the contents are sealed within. Please see my other auctions for more jewelry from the same estate.
