Believe it or not : in over 25 years of collecting the German Dr Wohler brand of optics , this is the one and only Sniper / Tactical Post WW2 model scope that Ive ever found in working order. And its NOS ( New Old Stock ) and pristine for its age.

This is the finest example of this particular model that I have ever seen, owned or used. It is a rare find.
This is a Brand New condition NOS ( New Old Stock ) German made Post WW2 optical scope Made for the Military and or Civilian market ( of Germany and lesser to European markets)
Dr Wohler brand optics are almost unknown in the USA.
They are best known for their European military optics , and lesser for their very small civilian models that were exclusively made for the German market ( and lesser to some select European markets)
The brand to my knowledge was never imported into the USA or the North American markets.

This pristine and ultra rare GEM of a Scope is a collectors dream piece .
It is mated / paired to a brand new set of QR ( Quick Release ) Off Set Mil Spec Tactical Precision Scope Rings with additional accessories
This scope and mounting system includes the following components :
= Dr Wohler Kassel Optical Scope assembly complete and 100% original (NOS)
+ QR Mil Spec Tactical precision Off Set scope rings ( fits standard rail )
Please note : Rail Mount adaptors to use the scope on 11mm and or 3/8" dovetails are readily available ( many European and older American firearms use these )
+ Rare original Rubber Eye Piece / relief / protector
+ Black Plastic Cover Guard and QR Door / protector for the Objective lens and end of the scope
This beautiful set up was put together for my collection. It has been in my collection for a very long time.
The scope and all of these components are new and have never been used in any way.
My intent was to use this as the optics for a Swiss made Andre Tanner 300 meter match / target 762 / 308 Win NATO caliber rifle ( for demo use only )
Regardless of my intentions, the option to use this never arose so I never did use it.
Im thinning out my many collections , and that is the only reason that Im selling this rare beautiful gem.
The German made scope is post WW2 vintage / collectable ( Dr Wohler of Kassel Germany stopped producing optics in the late 1960s )
My guess is that this scope was made in the 1950s or 60s ( but no later because the company folded in the 1960s / 1968-69 I believe )
The scope has pristine clear and clean optics . The lens are in perfect condition inside and out
The scope has a classic split "T" reticle typical for German and European optics of the time
The Windage and Elevation Adjustor Knobs are smooth and tight as is the focal adjustment mechanism
Typical superb German workmanship , fit and finish
Excellent lens quality
The scope uses a metal / steel tubular 26mm body and aluminum and steel components ( no plastics or cheap materials )
It is a precision civilian Sports / Hunting / Target scope originally designed and made for use in the German civilian applications
Only very small numbers of these scopes were made / in extremely limited editions
The Scope is Serial Numbered ( 0022 / number 22 of the limited edition made )
The following markings are found on the scope :

Of Kassel Germany ( province of Germany / Western Post WW2 Germany )
" SAAR " ........See note at bottom of the description.
" 4 X " magnification
" Brevete " Model ( civilian not military )
" 0022 " number 22 made in this limited edition
Only a handful of these rare civilian model scopes were ever manufactured / Dr Wohler's main markets where military contracts
The story is that Dr Wohler ( yes , he was a real person ) made small numbers of civilian optics because his friends requested him to make them ( because his optics were of such high quality )
This scope was originally designed for use on civilian firearms in Sport , Hunting , Target / competition and or leisure / recreational applications
The scope is very well made and durable . The design allows smooth and easy to use adjustments for elevation, windage and focal adjustments
All moving parts and or adjustment knobs and mechanisms are smooth and tight , and easy to use.
It has a normal Sports optics eye relief , and this paired with the relatively low 4 X magnification allows for rapid target finding ( as in hunting for example )
This scope in a different varient model was also used in the superb Swiss made SIG 510-4 / AMT ( American Match Target ) 762 / 308 wIn NATO caliber semi automatic rifles.
If the Dr Wohler brand was / is good enough for the Swiss military it must be a great optical device ( the Swiss military are known to use only the worlds best devices )
This model scope is a favored optic for the German civilian market at that time and was comparable in quality to Zeiss and even the Swiss Kern optics
It can be used on many different makes , models and caliber of firearms ( both rifles and pistols ) ( its originally made for rifle , but could be used in pistols is so desired )
From air or CO2 to 22 LR , and 30 Luger , 223 / 556 and even larger caliber. It was made for Sports and Hunting applications so bigger centerfire should be fine.
Since the scope is a civilian model, but Dr Wohler was mostly making mil spec ( Military Specification ) optics so it should be made to take and survive abuse and extremes. So it is very durable and well made.
Ive had ay least 2 or 3 dozen of these scopes ( in various models ) and without a doubt this is the most pristine of all of them ( in the civilian models )

There is not very much information about this scope, and even less for the Dr. Wohler brand.
The brand was well known in Germany and is some European countries but was never brought into the US markets
Dr Wohler made optical devices ( including , binoculars , monoculars , cameras , microscopes , telescopes , firearm optics , ranging and mapping devices , and others )
They were best known for their superb military tactical scopes ( like sniper rifle scopes and similar )
They made optics for both military and civilian markets ( in Germany , in Europe and not so much outside of the European markets )
They started production at the turn of the century , were best known for their German military optics ( like their WW2 sniper rifle scopes ) , later for their European military and lesser civilian markets.
They were comparable to the German Zeiss and or Swiss Kern as far as their quality of produced optics are concerned
They ended production and folded as a company in 1968=1969 ( they refused to lower built quality and this ultimately priced them out of business )
Since this is a rare mint condition example , Im reluctant to part with it. However, I just have to many , and Im going to sell 2 of my best Dr Wohler scopes :

PLEASE NOTE : Regarding the term / markings on the item = " SAAR"
SAAR Protectorate was a small section of post WW2 Germany that was under French control from 1947 to 1956 ( 9 years) . In 1956 this French controlled section was rejoined to and again became a part of Western Germany .
Most Dr Wohler optic devices were completely made in Kassel Germany ( Kassel is a province of Germany ). The Dr Wohler items that have the "SAAR" markings on them , were assembled in a lesser known factory of the Dr Wohler brand that was used to assemble certain optical models using parts made in the main plant in Kassel. This type of production ( shared at more than a single location ) is a common method of being able to produce more than one model item at a time ( where different models can be made and or assembled at different company plants or assembly lines ).
Someone also had mentioned that this might have also been done to get around export regulations ( the "SAAR" made optics were more easily exported to various countries compared to the "German" items made at the Kassel production facility ).
It could be one or more of these reasons.
However , this bit of information helps describe the item better, and it also gives us a good time frame to date the era of production. Since it bares the "SAAR" markings , this scope must have been made sometime between 1947 and 1956 ( post WW2 era in the Western regions of Germany once under French controls ).

Please Note: This beautiful Museum Quality German Optical Scope is fitted with a set / pair of ultra light weight mil spec offset scope mounting rings. Im selling the Scope and Offset Rings as a system ready to mount.
I set this scope up with offset rings to allow fitment to a Swiss precision weapon that had a offset optics mounting design.
The tube / body / housing of the scope is metal / blued highly polished finish and is metric ( German made / SAAR assembled ) and other scope ring options can be found for the scope should the buyer wish to remove and or replace them with another mounting option.
The Dr Wohler brand was / is best known within Europe where a number of different military services for a number of different countries used the brand for tactical / precision weapons applications.
Dr Wohler was best known for its military branch with their civilian optics production making up just a very small percentage of its devices.
Dr Wohler as a brand is rare even in Europe as they went out of business in the mid to late 1960s
They never were exported / imported into the USA / North America. So they are virtually unknown here in the states.
Their civilian firearm scopes are so rare that Ive found only one in over 25 years of collecting the brand.
This is that single example. It just so happens that the one found is in new condition. Most Dr Wohler optics that come on the market for sale are usually used and or abused military surplus items.
Finding a new / Museum quality Dr Wohler scope is almost impossible .
