Avro Vulcan B2 XL321 - Anti-Flash White with Blue Steel Missile
617 Squadron, RAF Scampton, 1964
1:72nd Scale

A superb large scale model of the RAF Avro Vulcan B2 V bomber painted in the nuclear strike anti-flash white scheme and complete with a Blue Steel stand-off missile which can be fitted below the fuselage.
This model is finished as aircraft XL321 serving with the famous 617 squadron - The Dambusters - from RAF Scampton during 1964.

The main fuselage section is produced in diecast metal with plastic parts for fine detailing, while the wings are produced in plastic to control weight and allow for panel lines to be reproduced accurately. The model is supplied with parts for gear up or gear down display, along with crew entry hatches for closed or open with access ladder deployed suitable for in-flight or ground display.
A cradle type display stand is included which allows the missile to be fitted under the fuselage.
At 1:72 scale this model of the Avro Vulcan is big, with a wingspan of 472mm (18 1/2in)

The Avro Vulcan was designed as part of the post-WW2 RAF V-bomber programme along with the Valiant and Victor as a long range nuclear capable strike bomber capable of penetrating Soviet air defenses and delivering weapons against targets in Russia. The Vulcans' delta wing design, earning them the nick-name of 'tin triangles' which entered service in 1953 and proved the most successful and versatile of the V bombers in its' intended role, Vulcans remaining in RAF service until 1984 as strike bombers.

The Dambusters need little introduction; founded as the RAFs' special weapons squadron during WW2 the post-war 617 was the first squadron declared operational with the Blue Steel missile in 1961 and flew Vulcans in the tactical strike role until the Avro V bomber was replaced by the super-sonic Panavia Tornado in 1981....
Only for the mighty Vulcan to be called upon to fly to war for real; in 1982, the only RAF strike bomber capable of delivering weapons to the Falkland Islands in the longest range strike mission in aviation history undertaken without support from an airfield closer than the mission base of Ascension Island.
