For your consideration is a lovely ROYAL DOULTON ,
Burslem, Scenic Plate by Leslie Johnson, circa early 1900’s.
Leslie
Johnson was one of the most talented figurative painters working in the
Potteries at the turn of the last century. He was employed at DOULTON’s
Burslem studio intermittently between 1900 and 1937.
The plate
is Bone China with great colors and detail. It has a green border with fine gold beading, trim and floral highlights. The
center has been beautifully hand painted with a Victorian scene depicting a wooded
background along with two well-dressed ladies, one sitting while the other is being
escorted by a young lad and his dog. It is artist signed Leslie Johnson. The plate itself measures approx. 8.75” wide, total overall framed dimensions are 16” wide by 16” tall.
The plate is in excellent condition, free of any chips, cracks or repairs with light
age related wear. Upon close inspection, we did detect a few gold trim beads
missing. The gold guilt frame is also in excellent condition with very light age related
wear.
A very nice ROYAL DOULTON Decorative Art Piece! J
