This is what happens when an old man keeps throwing pennies into a barrel in the garage. Maybe no one else knew about it. Well, when I pulled the dusty rag off, I found that it was brimming over with wheat pennies! I was surprised how old some of them were. There were several from the 1910s and 1920s, many with mint marks from that period! There were some 1930s, as well as a few steel pennies. There were even a few Indian pennies in there too!
So far people have reported finding lots of 1909, 1909 VDB, 1910-S, 1911-D, 1912-D, 1912-S, 1913-D, 1913-S, 1914-S, 1915-S, 1922-D, 1923-S, 1924-D, 1931-D, 1932-D, and 1933-D and several 1909-S, 1911-S, 1914-D and 1931-S. Who knows what "keys" they found without enumerating them (see feedback below)?Several customers have found Canadian
George V (1920 - 1936) small cents in their rolls. This stands to
reason as the hoard is in the Detroit area, across the Detroit river
from Windsor, Ontario Canada. There has been a lot of cross-boarder
traffic over the decades due to the auto industry, Prohibition, etc.
It is a dark, dirty, dusty garage with lots of cobwebs, tools from the 1950s and back to the 19th century, and lots of weird stuff. I think they should film a movie in there. It's a real trip back in time.
Well, the old man just couldn't stop throwing pennies in there. There isn't sufficient light in that place, so I had to wheel out the barrel into the light of day just to photograph it! Some of the pennies started spilling over, so I had a job on my hands, but luckily only a few of them touched the floor.
So out in the daylight they went, the remainder back on top, and a bag with some more that I found behind the bench grinder.
