Does not get much better. Great looking Antique 2 piece Japanese Fish Rice or Sweet Cake Mold or Kashigata. Terrific patina & age.

The mold is in good shape but there is a hairline crack to the top mold cover as shown in pictures. Overall, it really looks great. Measure roughly 8"x 4"x 1.25" and weighs about 12 ounces. Not sure of exact wood type.

Kashigata molds date back to over 300 years in Japan & likewise in other cultures & regions. This appears to be from the later Meiji or later period but perhaps pre 1940's.  The carving is very detailed. Additionally, there is good aged patina. This collector was very particular in the quality items she owned and this was a very treasured display (still has hanger hooks on back). Age is estimated based on research of such items & my experience with other antiques from various countries.
NOTE: The last photo in gallery is of an older Lobster Kashigata I have listed. It is not part of this sale, it is from the same collector's estate and shown for reference only.

It was obtained from a private collection along with many other Japanese antiques, arts & collectibles. Very nice items such as wooden Hibatchi's, valuable wood block art prints, wall hangings and hundreds of other various collectibles. Please look over those categories in our store if you are interested in Japanese art and artifacts. We will be listing many items in next few days, but they are selling fast due to the quality.

We will ship with great care and speed.
