You are bidding on an AKAI GX 646 silver face reel to reel tape recorder. This one has custom made Aluminum back panel matching the original Akai lettering silk screened on to it. This is very easy to clean unlike the original Akai particle board. A $200 value. Also has 2 custom made TEAK hardwood side panels. TEAK wood is rare in the US and is very expensive. Another $200 value. See the pictures number 7,8,9. Some light scuff marks on the silver face of the deck. Hardly noticeable. There is a small crack on the plastic near the screw hole near pinch roller. See picture 11. The original Akai hubs are included. The reels and reels with tape are not included. They were used for just display purposes. Please see the pictures so you can judge for yourself the overall cosmetic condition of the item. This deck was well cared for and never abused. Comes from a smoke free home.
The unit has been recapped with high temperature Panasonic and Nichicon capacitors, totally rebuilt 2 years ago. The switches and pots have been cleaned. Mechanical parts have been lubricated. The heads are the original Akai glass heads. Pinch roller is brand new.
The unit was professionally calibrated by Adrian's Pro Audio in Canoga Park California in October 2015. Calibrated the deck fully to RMGI PYRAL LPR 35 tape. RTM LPR 35 tape is still available new from RTM and it's 3600 feet of tape and is a better replacement for the older MAXELL XL1 tape. The deck does upto 25kHz at -10db +or-2db using 7.5 ips speed and upto 15kHz at -10db +or-2db using 3.75 ips speed. At 0VU using 7.5 ips speed the deck goes upto 20kHz +or-2db. 200nWb/m is the flux level. This deck is the multi voltage unit. Made in Japan..
