Luster ware was made by applying a metallic solution to the surface of a piece before the final firing. The metals gold, copper, and platinum were chemically dissolved and applied with a brush or by dipping. It is a type of pottery or porcelain with a metallic glaze that gives the effect of iridescence, produced by metallic oxides in an overglaze finish, which is given a second firing at a lower temperature in a "muffle kiln", reduction kiln, which excludes oxygen.
Blue Lustreware Tea Set designed and manufactured in Japan. This is a delicate eggshell porcelain hand painted lusterware. Each piece is decorated with lovely gray blue lusterware accented with orange and yellow flowers with swans swimming on a lake. If you hold the pieces up to the light they are translucent. The pieces are marked in red "MADE IN JAPAN" and made after 1941. Pieces marked MADE IN JAPAN in plain text without any company marks, in general, date to the period immediately after World War II.PLEASE SEE PICTURE FOR CONDITION
