I have eleven of Fornasetti's Tema E Variazioni plate series based on the face of the opera singer Lina Cavalieri.
This was Piero Fornasetti's most famous work and the illustrations feature the face Lina Cavalieri, an operatic soprano.
Fornasetti found her face in a 19th century magazine, turning the black and white image into an iconic representation of his work. It was known as the Tema e Variazioni" (theme and variation) plate series.
I
bought these from Liberty of London during the 1990s. They are in
their original packaging and the plates are in excellent condition.
Some of the boxes are slightly damaged - please see photos.
Several
collections of these plates are for sale on 1stdibs, with prices ranging from £400-£600 per plate.
They were displayed in our hall for many years and looked fantastic. I am selling them as we are downsizing.
The plates available are Nos 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 16, 17, 26, 28, 30 and 35.
