We purchased a large box of dinosaur bones at a very good price from a Moroccan dealer at the Tucson Rock and Gem show this year.  In part, because we saw some really nice bones on top of the pile that made then entire purchase a good deal.  But we also enjoyed the "treasure hunt" aspect of this offer.  Among the many legitimate bones in the box we found some "Frankensteins."  These are things like dinosaur vertebrae with fish bones glued on top to look like processes, processes glued on the correct bone but glued backwards and occasionally, as in this case, two different bones from the same animal glued together … just because they looked like they might fit?

These/this is real dinosaur bone.  It was prepped in the field and a toe bone (metatarsal) was glued a limb bone.  Both from a spinosaur, just different bones that kinda, sorta, probably looked like they maybe went together. They are easy to take apart with a little acetone applied to the middle of the bone where it was glued together.  OR you can show your students, customers or kids why it is important to know what you are buying before you pony up the cold hard cash.  This comes from the Kem Kem Formation in SE Morocco to you and me with love and a little North African paleoengineering.  Thanks for looking.
