I forged this pipe tamper out of a piece of wrought iron that was salvaged from the Fort Hill Cemetery in New York. This was a part of the original cemetery fence from the 1850s. The cemetery that this iron came from is where Harriet Tubman and a few other historically important people are buried. After the forging was done I burned oil onto the iron to give a shiny black look then I sanded the flat end and spiral ridges. The flat end on this one has an orange peel texture. To make it as useful as possible I also forged a scraper into the narrow end.
