This is an AMAZINGLY RARE AND SCARCE CHAIR! Fresh from a South Central Pennsylvania estate comes this wonderful NEOCLASSICAL, ART NOUVEAU OR VICTORIAN BRASS CHAIR. THIS COULD BE A CHARLES PARKER COMPANY, MAYBE BRADLEY AND HUBBARD. I PURCHASED THIS ALONG WITH ANOTHER CHARLES PARKER CHAIR FROM THE SAME OWNER. I HAVE SEEN OIL LAMPS BY PARKER WITH GRIFFINS, SO THE STYLE DOES RESEMBLE PARKERS WORK. THERE WERE SEVEREAL FAMILY MEMBERS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FURNITURE DESIGN SO THIS IS VERY POSSIBLY AN EARLIER PIECE. THE CHARLES PARKER COMPANY OF MERIDIAN CONNECTICUT WERE ASSOCIATED WITH BRADLEY HUBBARD AND EVENTUALLY ACQUIRED THE COMPANY. There are some similarities with the chairs. THERE APPEARS TO BE SOME SIGNATURES OR MARKS JUST BENEATH THE MERMAID, I CANNOT MAKE THEM OUT. I do have photos. Possibly a receiving chair, vanity or parlor chair, this particular chair appears unpolished, the fabric appears to be original. It is really hard to tell if the cloth or burlap underside is new, the original appears to be underneath. The velvet is a (little faded) light reddish pink. The splat on the chair has a decorative border of something simiar to the egg and dart, a heart shape with a linked design. The upper back is adorned with lovely mythological winged mermaids (sirens) a cupid head looking over an urn of fruit and griffins on the ends. The total height is 36 1/2" to the top of the griffins, the seat is about 19" from the floor, the back is 17 1/2" tall not including the top of the griffins The splat is 6 7/8" widening to 9 1/8" at the top. The seat measures about 17" x 15 3/4". The back is 11 1/4" wide at the seat, graduating to16 1/2" at the top. It has some weight to it registering at about 19lbs. A pair of Charles Parker Co. chairs sold at auction in 2011 for an Unimaginable $16000 ! This is one of those items that may never come around again. Shipping is calculated based on your location.
